Coronavirus Testing

COVID-19 Testing

Trumbull Pediatrics now has the ability to do both  rapid COVID19  and PCR testing.  The rapid test  is not a PCR test, it is a rapid lateral flow assay made by Quidel and run on a Sofia platform (what we use for our flu testing as well.)  The swab is in the lower nares- much less uncomfortable than the nasopharyngeal deep swabs.  The test is most accurate in children with symptoms (day 3 the best) or on days 5-7 following a COVID exposure.   Negative testing will not shorten quarantine for exposed patients

If you or your child has been exposed, you will need to quarantine for 14 days regardless of testing.  However, a school or daycare may ask for testing to determine if there are additional asymptomatic cases that might require further quarantining of a pod or classroom.  Additional testing at day 5-7 after exposure can give you a little reassurance if negative, but does not negate the need to continue with quarantine and precautions as disease can develop up to 14 days following exposure.

COVID-19 Antibody Testing

This test looks for the presence of certain antibodies in your system that can show if you have had the infection or not. If you think you have been exposed please call our office for an appointment with one of our pediatricians who will order the test for you
